August 4, 2022 – Ps 42, Pr 2, Jn 18

Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”
John 18:21 NIV

Here is Jesus in front of Annas. Instead of answering Annas’ questions He says ask those who heard me. Jesus already knows what the “witnesses” will say.

John’s Gospel only says that Jesus was then sent to Caiaphas. Then goes to Jesus before Pilate. But as we see in Matthew when He is sent to Caiaphas they looked for and found “false evidence against Jesus”.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’ ”
Matthew 26:59‭-‬61 NIV

Their first liars did not give them an accusation that they would be able to put Him to death but when the two who said that Jesus said He would “destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days” they had what they needed.
