September 20, 2022 – Ps 89, Pr 18, Isa 4

Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.
Proverbs 18:2 NIV

This is a good reminder that there are times that you are wasting your breath when it comes to speaking truth. So if you share a truth of God’s word with someone and they immediately begin sharing their own opinion without even pausing to hear what you said, just listen politely and hear what they say. Let them know in some way that you heard them and let it go. Don’t waste your time trying to explain it to them. Don’t pre judge who will seek to understand. Share God’s word with everyone but when you find the person only wants to share their opinion, let them. By being polite and respectful to the fool, you let them know they can come to you when their heart does begin to change. Or they do have questions and are ready to seek understanding. We just talked tonight at couples group about how non believers expect to be attacked, criticized, or have Christianity shoved down their throat. When we act the opposite of what they expect it opens a door for relationship. And relationship is the best way to get someone to see you as reliable and to value what you have to say.
