September 16, 2022 – Ps 85, Pr 14, Acts 6

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Proverbs 14:23

Not sure why this caught my attention. Maybe because people not doing what they say they are going to do is one of my biggest and most intense triggers. It brings out the most intense emotional response that I can have. The difference between that and a pet peeve is that a pet peeve is an annoyance and the reaction to it is similar in intensity as it is for other people. When your reaction to something is more intense than the average persons reaction then you are probably being triggered.

Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.
Proverbs 14:26 NIV

I think this scripture is to turn my focus on Christ when I am triggered.

  1. Acts 6

2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

Demonstrating the process of using the gifts God gives each individual to grow His kingdom. And the importance of the ministry of the word.

6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

Praying over someone who is starting or continuing a new ministry is so important.

7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

With God, Spirit filled servants and prayer, the word of God reaches so many more.
